Beauty blogger Amena khan recently made history by becoming the first Hijab wearing model for L’Oreal’s hair campaign.

The influencer with over 580K followers on instagram took to social media to say “So…lately I’ve had a complex relationship with my hair feeling lacklustre,” “When I take off my scarf, I want my hair to be more radiant — don’t we all? I’m so excited and incredibly proud to announce that I’m part of the new L’Oréal Paris Elvive World of Care Campaign.”

Amena, who is also the founder of luxury make up brand Ardere Cosmetics mentioned in an interview with Vogue UK that growing up she could not relate to anyone in the media, and that she only started wearing a Hijab in her 20’s. “”I think seeing a campaign like this would have given me more of a sense of belonging. I trusted L’Oréal that they would communicate the message well”

Amena mentions in the interview that people have an illusion that if you are wearing a Hijab you do not take care of your hair underneath, which would presume that if you do not not wear a Hijab you are simply taking care of your hair for the sake of others.

Amena as well as other Hijab wearing models such as Halima Aden who is signed to IMG models, have really paved the way for diversity in the beauty industry, which is making brands realise that it is your passion to change the world is all that matters.
